Lorax the Movie!
Brought my girl to watch Lorax at the cinema (GV Grand)! Yes, her first movie at just 2.5 years old!!!
Though technically, it’s really her second time entering the cinema. Her first time was at Camera 7 Cinema @ Campbell, California when we were still in the States (at just 11 mth old). They have Diaper Days and Date Nights, where the whole movie screening was catered for families WITH kids. What that meant is that EVERYONE in the cinema is a parent with a child. So even if your newborn decided to scream his lungs out… or if your young one starts to throw a huge tantrum on the floor… or if your toddler decides to catwalk around the whole cinema (which was pretty much what Yahn did that time), no one will shush you up cos THEY UNDERSTAND.
SO!!! The Lorax.
To be honest, I didn’t know the story at all beforehand. So I couldn’t actually prepare the girl for what’s to come. All I could do was ask her if she wants to watch a movie with me and this was her response.
Me: Shall we go watch a movie?
She: I want to move it move it, I want to move it move it…
Hahaha… I love how the way her mind connects things together.
And what’s funny is that this Madagascar song did appear in the pre-movie trailers!!! She probably thought that was what we came for cos when all advertisements and trailers ended and Lorax was just beginning, she turned to me and said, “Mama, I want more Move It Move It!”
Anyway, did you know? If your child is less than 90cm, they can go in for free?!
I was actually prepared to pay for her ticket… until I found out about this! We miss by just a teeny bit so I’m especially thrilled that she can go in for free!
Because it was a Tuesday afternoon, there was hardly anyone around. Probably another 2-3 groups of people watching it, seating far behind. I was smart. I asked for seats further front cos as expected, my easily excited girl was shouting out everything she sees on screen.
She: Look Mama! A penguin! A lion! I want to move it move it!
Me: Yes yes. Shh shh… Softly okay? We don’t shout in the cinema…
She: Look Mama! What is that? Uncle’s sad! Look Mama! What is that?!?!
Sigh…
As for the movie… it’s great! I love it! And I’m delighted to say my little 2.5 year-old sat throughout too! There are some scenes that she was a little lost… but most of the time she was glued. It also helps that there are songs and dance now and then that gets her moving in her seat.
And I’m even happier to say that she has learnt an important lesson today too.
Me: Yahn, can we cut down trees?
She: No…
Me: No… Cos if we cut down trees, all the animals will be sad and they will go away. Lorax will go away too.
(okay, so maybe that isn’t exactly the right consequence I should be educating, but I’ll leave that to another day)
Me: Yahn, how do we plant a tree?
She: A seed. Water water water.
Me: Yap. We plant the seed in the ground, and water the seed so it will grow.
(and that’s what we’re going to be doing tonight. I’m giving her some green beans to plant and watch it grow.
)
$7.50 for a movie ticket and I’m happy with the money spent.
I’m going to sign up for the golden village VIP card so I could go in for $6.50 on tuesdays next time!

Think I need to clarify on the 90cm free tickets rule.
The child gets to go in for free but wouldn’t get a seat to themselves. Yahn got one cos the whole cinema is practically empty so naturally she gets to sit anywhere she / I choose.
For Cathay, there’s currently a promotion for Moms ‘N’ Tots where for every one movie ticket purchase, one ticket will be given free to children below 7 years old. Only for shows before 2pm, Mon-Fri excluding PH and their eves. T&Cs apply (http://www.cathaycineplexes.com.sg/promo-detail.aspx?id=54)
this is cool! but angel will be taller than 90cm when i get back! love the I wanna move it move it!
