NDP 2012
Guess who’s all happy to be out celebrating National Day?
Maybe she’s just happy to be out.
Definitely happy sitting in her stroller and getting ferried all around…
And just when she thought she’ll be out having fun… she found herself plonked on the ground, surrounded by strangers, and having cold french fries for dinner.
Totally not looking pleased, at all.
Not lucky enough to get the official National Day Parade tickets at the floating platform, my mom gave us her tickets to the celebration at the Promontory. *YEAH!* So while we only got to watch the parade proceedings from the big screen that screened off Channel 5, we got to watch the flypast and fireworks live!
And thankfully it was a cool day with a nice breeze. Clear skies… and we found a nice spot in the shade!
Phew! Else my little polar bear would be fussy even more than she did!
Immediately after she finished her dinner… “Mama, I’m all done. Shall we go now?” … And that was even before anything happened!
By this time you would have noticed she was either carried, or sitting on our laps.
And our babysitter for the night came along to share the 12kg load.
*thank you Aunty Eunice!*
My little pampered princess simply refused to sit on the hard uneven ground (even though there was a nice clean plastic sheet protecting us from the soil / grass / little black ants that crawled around scavenging for food)…
And finally… just when we ran out of excuses of why we *needed* to stay around when the little one obviously wanted to leave… the parade started and we stood up to sing the national anthem… And the highlight for the girl, the GIANT SINGAPORE FLAG flying by with the chinook.
And shortly after, the fighter jets thundering past above our heads…
Now she finally saw what that loud roar was all about everytime she heard it when the planes had a rehearsal…
Looking happy when the sound faded off and it was peace and quiet once again…
After the flypast, many people left. And with the extra space, we set up her stroller and the girl sat down like a princess, complete with crossing (and shaking) of legs too!
And then suddenly, she said she needed to go toilet. *ARGH* And the queue took SO VERY LONG…

That by the time we were done and finished with the toilet break, the performances were finishing and the fireworks begun.
And I bet you didn’t know there were the symbols of the flag shining up onto Marina Bay Sands.
We were given a large candle too… To take and pass on the flame with other singaporeans around us… Except my monkey is now in a phase where candles = birthday = sing-song + blow them off! So needless to say, her flame didn’t stay alive very long. (Plus it was really quite windy that night…)

So the babysitter decided, enough with playing with fire… and took the little party-animal to P-A-R-T-Y! Check out the two of them dancing to the live band while the mommy took pictures to commemorate her first NDP celebration…
… and the daddy stood around feeling totally happy that he was not the one hopping about and sweating it out with his little chiongster.
She spent her first national day in California, Redwood City, participating in the Singaporean National Day Celebration with Singaporeans overseas… Her second national day was kindof uneventful (that’s why I didn’t blog about it, nor remember anything about it
). And this is her third! And I think she really enjoyed herself! Even if it was really just the last half an hour when she partied to the live band.
Well… hope we get tickets to the actual NDP performance at the floating platform next year!
Happy 47th Birthday Singapore!
